The Text-A-Thon is back Saturday, October 10, 3-6:00PM
Together for 2020’s first Text-a-Thon in late August was such a big hit that we've planned a sequel with texting on 10/10 for 2020 Victory!
In this summer’s Text-a-Thon we reached more than 815,000 voters in North Carolina in less than three hours! It was so fast and furious it broke Spoke, the texting platform (but not before we texted fully one-third of all registered Democrats in North Carolina).
Text-a-Thon II: Blast Off! will bring us together to reach out to one million voters to support Biden/Harris and all Democrats in key swing states. The texting will be with the Democratic National Committee’s 2020 Victory National Text Team for Biden/Harris using the ThruText texting platform and Slack.
The three-hour texting event will feature music with professional DJs! The party will be really rocking now with an expanded list of special luminaries.
Texting is one of the most effective ways to reach the voters we need to help us save our democracy. Ninety-five percent of texts are read within three minutes!
Text-a-Thon II is on Saturday, October 10 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, but you’ll need to train ahead of time to join in.
The national training sessions fill quickly, so sign up today. Or you can join a smaller Minuteman Indivisible training (see trainings titled “Text-a-Thon Training on 2020 Victory”; also listed on MI’s Events calendar). Since the training is not geared to novice texters, if you're new to activist texting please review this short videoIntroduction to Activist Textingbeforehand to get the most out of the training.
After signing up for training you can RSVP for Text-a-Thon IIhere. And to have the best Text-a-Thon experience, be sure to get some practice texting for the campaign before the event. For questions or additional information, contact the Texting Team via email at Minuteman Indivisible Textingor on the #text-teams channel on MI Slack.
Thank you Postcard Writers!!
The Minuteman Indivisible Steering Committee extends thanks and congratulations to the many members who participated in our postcard-writing campaign. When the current supply of postcards has been distributed, we will close our postcard efforts for this election cycle. We can be proud of the 10s of thousands of postcards that we sent to voters! Postcards are a wonderful tactic, but once the mail-in ballots begin to flow through the postal system, it is time to move on to speedier tactics like sending texts and making phone calls. Elsewhere in this issue of the Muster, you will learn of opportunities to use these tactics.
This year, Minuteman Indivisible selected three candidates on whom we would focus special attention. Sara Gideon, Cal Cunningham, and Carolyn Bourdeaux are strong candidates to unseat Republicans in Maine, North Carolina and Georgia. They are also running in swing states that could help win the presidential election for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Below is a short list of actions you can take to support them. For even more activities, you can always go to Together for 2020.
Phone banks for Carolyn Bourdeaux: Tuesdays 6 - 8:00 pm
See Carolyn's web site for more opportunities to get involved.
And Minuteman Indivisible is looking beyond just our focus candidates. We've worked to get Florida voters signed up to vote-by-mail, we've called and texted voters in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, and we've worked with Force Multiplier to raise money for a large number of Democratic Party candidates.
If you're looking for an additional project or for something new to do to ensure a Blue Wave in November, we’ve put together ashortlist of key links and contacts. The idea of the shortlist is to keep it simple with a few great links.

Minuteman Indivisible Member Survey Results
Members Express Enthusiasm for Information on Taking Action
We heard from you! Thank you to the 34 Minuteman Indivisible members who completed the member survey and took the time to let us know how MI can best support your activism! The survey results can be viewed in this brief slide presentationthat was provided at the recent Muster Together @ Home meeting. The first slide after the title slide provides a summary.
In brief, the survey, conducted among MI members during the first half of September, indicated keen interest in the sharing of information on taking action, particularly to get-out-the-vote, fight voter suppression, flip the U.S. Senate and donate to candidates and campaigns.
Respondents had high praise for the Muster newsletter and email alerts with over 80% finding the information very or somewhat useful. There was much less interest in virtual meetings.
Top priorities for respondents for the few weeks until the election are working to get-out-the-vote (97% of respondents) and flipping the U.S. Senate (82%).
Actions that member respondents plan to most engage in over the next few weeks include postcard writing (68%), texting (65%), donating to candidates and campaigns (59%) and phone banking and letter writing (each 38%)
Please see theslide presentationfor a complete summary of results as well as a full report on the survey.
Wisconsin is the tipping point state. Trump campaign officials have admitted as much. They know that if they lose Wisconsin, they can’t win the election. So in addition to our commitments to Sara Gideon in Maine, Cal Cunningham in North Carolina and Carolyn Bourdeaux in Georgia, Minuteman Indivisible members will be working hard in Wisconsin as well. Please get involved to Win Wisconsin!
TOTV (Text Out The Vote) will be the final three weekends of the campaign -- SAT. 10/17 & SUN. 10/18; SAT. 10/24 & SUN. 10/25; and SAT. 10/31 -- TUES. 11/3. We will be sending a LOT of text messages during that time period and we need all WisDems Texters to be involved!
*RIGHT NOW -- all texters who want to be involved in WisDems TOTV should sign up for Text Team Volunteer GOTV Trainingon either Tuesday, 10/13 or Thursday, 10/15. You do NOT need to attend both training sessions; please choose only one to attend.
It’s Official! Ranked Choice Voting has made it to the Massachusetts November state ballot as Question 2. Thanks go out to all the Minuteman Indivisible members who helped by collecting signatures or signing the petition.
A new committee has been formed that will replace Voter Choice 2020 called Yes on 2 More Voice. The web site can be found here.
Many people still don’t know what RCV involves. One simple way you can help is to sharethis videoof Elizabeth Warren and Maura Healey explaining the advantages of RCV.
Talking to voters about the benefits of RCV is key to getting Question 2 passed, so the Yes on 2 campaign will be holding multiple virtual phone banks each week from now through the end of October to reach as many voters as possible. Get a list of upcoming phonebanks and sign up to help out here.
You can also help the Yes on 2 campaign in other ways including sending postcards to friends or displaying a window or yard sign. Get all the details here.
Or contact Minuteman Indivisible ChampionBob Avalloneby email or on Slack.
We all know how critical the 2020 election is. Each week Together for 2020 will be highlighting specific key actions. With all the groups in Massachusetts working together, we can have a huge impact. We hope to have your help to get the message out to your members.
